What makes an adult successful? Turn to Resource 1 On the next slide there are pictures of famous adults. In pairs, discuss then write down: • Who are three most successful adults? • Who are three least successful adults?

Imagine you are 18 years old and you have just left school or college. What happens next? What are the different options open to you?

In groups, work together to create a spider diagram listing your different options.

Higher Education Usually a university degree Entry level job to “work your way up” A job where you hope to work hard and get promoted A gap year A one year break before going to university to travel, volunteer or work. An easy job "just for now" A job to buy you some thinking time before you decide what you want to do next. Vocational training or apprenticeship Training to help you get a skilled job.

Turn to Resource 2 Think about which of the five options you think you might choose when you leave school at 18. With a partner, discuss then write down the advantages and disadvantages of this option. Which course or job do you think you might choose? If you have time, you could fill in the boxes for more than one choice.

Turn to Resource 3 With a partner, write down as many questions as you can about Higher Education which begin with each word. Who? How? Higher Education Where? When you’ve finished, number your questions! What? When?

Swap your questions with another group and read them. You are going to answer another group’s questions! Watch Video 1 and try to answer the questions. If you find a question you can’t answer, write it on a post-it HERE

Who? How? Which question starter was missing from our last activity? Video 2 is all about WHY someone might choose Higher Education. Watch the video then list as many benefits of HE as you can think of. What? Higher Education Where? HERE When?

Now choose one of the benefits you’ve identified and explain why it is a good thing. How will this make your adult life better, easier or more successful? What will you learn or gain from this?
