KIGEZI, UGANDA Life used to be very hard for Javanese. Everyday she had to walk down the steep hill she lives on to collect water. The whole journey is 3 km and that is hard work especially when you are 62. Then two years ago, Diocese of Kigezi’s water and sanitation program began a project to bring water to the village. Javanese was part of the committee who organised the work. She was given lots of training around water safety and hygiene. Today the village has a communal tap with clean water, Javanese is still involved, making sure the system is properly maintained.
