Reduce persistent absenteeism of pupil premium pupils through family engagement, empowerment and challenge • Lamb research 2009 -Link between absence and attainment- (DFE report 2015 v ks 2 -4) 90% of pupils not reaching expected in 2017 were PA PP • In Newcastle 2015/16 -467 referred for prosecution 15% prosecuted (70)and less than 60% OF PROSECUTED (41)went on to improved attendance • Project schools represent 32% of families who were prosecuted (22) • 85% of prosecuted families live in highest areas of deprivation

Implementation Guide
What was the bid? • Development of an assessment framework that will support identification of barriers to good attendance at the ‘parent contract stage’ • Development of workshops and network of support to overcome some of the identified barriers- supported and developed across schools • Daily text throughout the project to engage families • Incentive offered at successful completion of the workshops
Impact to date Cohort 1 - 44 families initially identified with 21 engaging. 15 completed the project= 60% Cohort 2 - 29 families initially identified and engaging. 21 completed the project = 72% Cohort 3 - 27 initially identified and engaging 22 completed the project = 81%
Staff skills and confidence Scale of 1 to 5 in terms of levels of confidence 11% increase in confidence in ability to challenge families around attendance 15% increase in confidence in ability to support families around attendance

Attendance Project how did we implement it?
The aim Was to improve parents’ engagement with school though identifying barriers to attendance • Attendance improves • Parents to become more engaged in their child’s learning • Have Better relationships with their child’s school • Have more confidence in the education system
