SCHOOL BUS RULES
Waiting for the Bus Stay 10 Feet from the Edge of the Road No Horseplay Wait for the Bus to Stop COMPLETELY Do Not Cross the Road until the Driver has Signaled that it is Safe.
When approaching your student’s bus stop, the driver will activate the amber flashing lights to warn the other motorists that there is a stop coming up. This does not mean that the other drivers will stop. Unfortunately, they sometimes speed up so they don’t have to wait for the bus to stop. The Bus Driver will stop at the designated school bus stop and will set the parking brake (it will make a loud whooshing sound), put the bus in neutral, check for traffic and THEN activate the red flashing lights. Do not be in a hurry to cross the road. This procedure takes some time. Once the driver feels that it is safe, they will give a signal that is it safe to approach the bus.
MELTDOWNS…… Drivers are familiar with students that don’t want to get on the bus. We can handle that. Put your student on the bus, say goodbye and wave and smile from the side of the road. The crying usually subsides in a little while.
PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT IN THE AFTERNOON Please be AT the designated bus stop 5 minutes before it should arrive. There MUST be someone present for your Kindergartener to be release from the bus. If you have an older sibling, please speak with the driver to let them know it is okay to allow the kindergartener off the bus with the sibling. Be mindful of extracurricular activities and make arrangements if the older sibling will not be on the bus.
PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT The bus will have traffic stopped and they cannot wait. If the bus must depart without dropping off the student, you may have to go to the school to get your student. Be sure to keep the school informed if you change your phone number. If no one is at the stop to pick up the student, we need to be able to contact you.
EXTRA INFORMATION The School District policy is to have one drop off change per 9 week period. If you are planning to move to another house, inform the school BEFORE you move. Be aware that the buses do NOT travel every road in the district. Changes can take a couple of days if the bus has to be rerouted. By giving the bus company advanced notice, the bus can pick your student up on the first day you are at the new house. If you wait till the last minute, you may have to self transport till the bus route can be adjusted.
