The Process 1 - (The Problem Analysis) 1. Describe the “problem” in simple, easily understood terms. What is the problem in Carana. 2. Identify and list the symptoms (the visible effects of this problem). Brainstorm these and capture them. 3. Then analyze these symptoms and try to break them down into root causes. These root causes then become the target for any intervention strategy.

The Process 2 - (The Solution Analysis) 1. Describe the “solution” in simple, easily understood terms. What do we want to see in Carana (an End State. ) What is the strategic vision for Carana and upon what principles would this vision be based. 2. Identify and list the outcomes or achievements that we need to see in place in order to get to this strategic vision. 3. Identify and list the interventions (or activities) that are needed to tackle the root causes to achieve the desired outcomes. Each root cause should have a corresponding intervention. These then become the basis for the outputs and activities needed for any Mission Plan for Carana.
THE TASK Using the root cause/problem analysis tool, work in Planning Groups 1730 – onwards. (Some out of hours work will be required) Prepare an Analysis of Carana to present in plenary at 1330 on Friday showing the key necessary objectives, outcomes and activities to achieve your agreed “solution”. Value of process comes from group discussion and consensus building.
