Concept Selection Example: Reusable Syringe • Seleksi konsep adalah proses evaluasi konsep-konsep sehubungan dengan kebutuhan konsumen dan kriteria lain, dengan membandingkan kekuatan dan kelemahan relatif dari konsep-konsep yang ada, dan memilih satu atau lebih konsep untuk investigasi yang lebih jauh, testing, atau pengembangan.

Metode-Metode Pemilihan Konsep • External Decision: Konsep-konsep diberikan kepada konsumen, klien, atau pihak eksternal untuk diseleksi. • Product Champion: Anggota yang berpengaruh di dalam tim pengembangan produk memilih satu konsep berdasarkan preferensi pribadi. • Intuition: Konsep dipilih berdasarkan perasaan. Kriteria eksplisit atau trade-offs tidak digunakan. Konsep tsb hanya terlihat lebih baik. • Multivoting: Setiap anggota dari tim mengambil suara untuk beberapa konsep. Konsep dengan suara terbanyak adalah yang dipilih. • Pros and cons: Tim membuat daftar strengths dan weaknesses dari setiap konsep dan memilih berdasarkan pendapat grup. • Prototype and test: Organisasi membuat dan men-test prototype untuk setiap konsep dan konsep dipilih berdasarkan test. • Decision matrices: Tim menilai setiap konsep berdasarkan kriteria seleksi yang telah ditetapkan, yang mungkin diberi bobot.

EVALUASI ALTERNATIF • Tujuan : mencari solusi terbaik • Prosedur : rasional dengan mempertimbangkan kemampuan memenuhi fungsi • Metoda weighted objective method : memberikan cara untuk memeriksa dan membandingkan alternatif rancangan (design) • Metoda ini menggunakan numerical weights pada tujuan dan numerical scores pada performance pada tiap alternatif.

The Weighted Objectives Method • List the design objectives – Tentukan tujuan (klarifikasi) – Tujuan termasuk faktor teknis, ekonomis, kebutuhan user, safety requirement, dll – Bila mungkin, lebih baik dalam bentuk kuantitatif • Rank-order the list of objectives – Menentukan bobot (weight) dari pentingnya objective (tujuan) dan ditulis dalam bentuk urutan – Cara : menulis di kartu, diskusi, comparing pairs of objective

The Weighted Objectives Method • Assign relative weightings to the objectives – Memberikan nilai numerik untuk tiap objective mewakili bobot relatif terhadap objective lain. – Cara sederhana menentukan rank-ordered objectives pada skala 1 -10 atau 1 -100 – Cara objective tree (masing-masing berjumlah sama dengan objective di atasnya. Nilai di kiri adalah nilai relatif pada tingkat yang sama, nilai di kanan adalah nilai sesungguhnya.

The Weighted Objectives Method • Establish performance parameters or utility scores for each of the objectives – Convert statements of objectives into parameter that can be measured or at least estimated with some confidence. – Skala kuantitatif atau kualitatif : far below average (sangat rendah), below average (rendah), average (rata-rata), above average (tinggi), far above average (sangat tinggi) atau skala 04, 0 -8, 0 -10 • Calculate and compare the relative utility values of the alternative design – Mempertimbangkan tiap alternatif design dan menghitung tiap score untuk performance pada tiap parameter – Ukuran atau point mentah performance harus disesuaikan lagi mengingat perbedaan bobot tiap objective, dengan mengalikan score dengan weight value – Contoh : drive unit, small city-car

Remember… • Tujuan dari seleksi konsep bukan untuk memilih konsep yang terbaik melainkan mengembangkan konsep yang terbaik. • Jadi ingat untuk mengkombinasikan dan menyempurnakan konsep-konsep yang telah dipilih menjadi yang lebih baik lagi! • Caveats/Warnings: – Beware of the best "average" product. – Perform concept selection for each different customer group and compare results. – Check sensitivity of selection to the importance weightings and ratings. – May want to use all of detailed requirements in final stages of selection. – Note features which can be applied to other concepts.
