TIME LINE OF COMPUTER STORAGE HISTORY
1928 - MAGNETIC TAPE • Magnetic tape is a long and narrow strip of plastic that thin magnetic material is coated on, made for magnetic recording. It was invented by Fritz Pfleumer, a german engineer.
1932 - MAGNETIC DRUM • The magnetic drum is a metal cylinder coated with magnetic iron-oxide material on which data and programs can be stored. It was invented by G. Taushek.
1946 - SELECTRON TUBE • The Selectron was an early form of digital computer memory It was a vacuum tube that stored digital data as electrostatic charges.
1950 S - MAGNETIC CORE • It is small magnetic rings made of ceramic to store information from the polarity to the magnetic field it contains.
1963 - MUSIC TAPE • Music Tape or Cassette first introduced by Philips, is a magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback.
1971 - 8” FLOPPY • Floppy Disk was produced by IBM. It is a thin magnetic storage film wrapped by plastic and It also made storage a lot easier for people.
1980 – CD • Compact disc (CD) is a digital optical disc data storage format which was originally stored and played only sound recordings but was later developed for storage another data format.
1990 - MOD (PDF) • A magneto-optical drive is a rewritable optical disk that is used in combination with magnetic technology. It came in 3. 5" and 5. 25" cartridges.
2000 S - SD CARD • A Secure Digital (SD) card is a tiny memory card used to make storage portable among various devices, such as cellular phones or digital cameras.
TODAY - CLOUD BACKUP SOLUTIONS • Cloud backup, or cloud computer backup, refers to backing up data to a remote, cloud-based server. The server is usually hosted by a third-party service provider, who charges the backup customer a fee.
