The History • The first university in Granada was founded by the Moorish Sultan

The History • The first university in Granada was founded by the Moorish Sultan Yusuf the First in 1349 • The modern university owes its origins to the initiative of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V who founded it in 1531 • At this time the “general studies” were restricted to Logic, Philosophy, Canonic Law, Grammar and Cases of Conscience • Today the University offers about 45 major and 5 engineering degrees; and has 60, 000 students, more than 2, 000 foreign visitors, 3, 000 teachers and 1, 500 administrative staff • It become the major Spanish university in terms of the number of Socrates/Erasmus students which it accepts

The geographical location The province of Granada can claim to have the most diverse climate in Spain Its coast is subtropical, whilst inland the mountains rise to the peaks of the Iberian peninsula, >3, 000 mts Granada has a Mediterranean mountain climate: hot and dry in summer, and cold and dry in winter, with cool, wet blustery weather in spring and autumn
