Comprehensive Training to support the National Integrated TBHIV
Comprehensive Training to support the National Integrated TB/HIV Information System Implementation Introduction to Data Demand Utilisation (DDU)
Expectations • Broader training expectations discussed earlier • Expectations are that attendees will: – Lead this discussion at sub-national levels – Utilise learnings to support the maintenance of THIS at sub-national levels – Provide ongoing mentoring and skills transfer to facilities – Have a similar understanding and approach in their routine activities
Entry point • Historical focus on reporting, as opposed to DDU • TIER. Net in some facilities from 2011, but still weak utilisation • Transition from implementation to maintenance • DDU is a critical aspect of THIS maintenance • DDU to be grounded in the guidance – i. e. SOP
Outline • Objectives programmatic exercises • DDU by district • 90 -90 -90 and THIS • DDU in the health system • Data quality in DDU • Creating a DDU culture • DDU for programme • Current guidance and tools for DDU • Operational and management
Objectives Improved data demand utilisation Evidence informed decision making Dialogue link between programme management and information Improved data quality Improved patient management Health systems strengthening
Improved data quality Improved data demand utilisation Evidence informed decision making Dialogue link between programme management and information Improved data quality Improved patient management Health systems strengthening • With increased utilisation, data quality will improve • The more you use it, the more likely you are to find critical issues • Specific tools designed to support interrogation
Improved patient management Improved data demand utilisation Evidence informed decision making Dialogue link between programme management and information Improved data quality Improved patient management Health systems strengthening • Improved utilisation and adherence to SOP will result in better managed patients • Institutionalisation and accountability are critical • Analysis of routine performance data will help to prioritise patient management issues

Dialogue between program & info Improved data demand utilisation Evidence informed decision making Dialogue link between programme management and information Improved data quality Improved patient management Health systems strengthening • Active dialogue between programme and information colleagues about data and its impact on programme activities • Data largely produced by information and used by programmes
Evidence-informed decisions Improved data demand utilisation Evidence informed decision making Dialogue link between programme management and information Improved data quality Improved patient management Health systems strengthening • Management must be able to make decisions using the information routinely produced • Focus on existing data sources (TIER. Net and web. DHIS) – use what we have
Improved DDU Improved data demand utilisation Evidence informed decision making Dialogue link between programme management and information Improved data quality Improved patient management Health systems strengthening • Overall purpose of the training is to build skills, provide tools, and link these with existing requirements and job functions • Working smarter, not harder
