Standards Introduction In keeping with the true spirit of an organization of volunteers, the possession and wear of the Auxiliary uniform by Auxiliarists should be a matter of personal pride. When in uniform, the Auxiliarist is a representative of DHS, the Coast Guard, Auxiliary, and the U. S. Government. Appearance, uniform fit, and grooming shall reflect the pride of that representation. C. 1. Setting an Example Elected and appointed leaders are expected to wear the uniform properly to set an example. They should help other Auxiliarists develop proper habits of personal appearance, hygiene, and grooming when wearing the uniform. Uniforms shall be pressed, clean, fit properly, and be in good repair. 4

When to Wear Uniforms • On board operational facilities, under orders working or undress uniform • When conducting VSCs - working or undress uniform • When an instructor or aide in PE classes undress blue, tropical blue, winter dress blue or service dress blue • When conducting a Marine Dealer visit service dress blue or tropical blue 5

When to Wear Uniforms (continued) • Hot weather uniform when doing patrols, VSCs and ATON missions - when warranted • DIRAUX or Auxiliary elected officer or person in charge of mission (i. e. , Coxswain), may require specific uniforms for specific missions • ALL members on missions must be in identical uniforms 6

When Wearing the Uniform is Prohibited • • In public places of dubious reputation When engaged in political activities When in a foreign country Don’t wear civilian outer wear (coat, sweater, jacket, etc. ) with the uniform • Home-made uniforms are prohibited. 7

Uniform Standards • Wear the uniform with Pride, as a representative of the United States Coast Guard, Reserve, Auxiliary and the Civilian counterparts. • Elected officers should set the example. • ALL members of the Auxiliary should be cognizant of member’s uniform integrity. 8

“Service-specific” Standards When in Uniform… • Hats should be worn squarely on the head. • Sleeves should not be rolled up except as authorized with the ODU. • Bottom of pants should touch shoe tops with Dress Uniforms. • Except formal uniforms, a female skirt hemline will be no higher than the crease in the back of the knee nor lower than 2 inches below the crease. • Wristwatches, rings and bracelets okay if in good taste. 9

“Service-specific” Standards When in Uniform (continued) • Men cannot wear earrings. Women can wear small pearl studs (<1/4 inch in diameter). Diamond studs can be worn with dress uniform. • Necklaces, chains, suspenders, pens, handkerchiefs, etc… should not be visible. • Hair should be neat and clean and above the collar (for men) or at the collar (for women). 10

Service Dress, Blue • Dress Blue coat, with silver buttons and dress blue pants. • Air Force style long-sleeved shirt with CG Blue (four-in-hand) tie. • Black socks and shoes. • Sleeve lace with sleeve shield ü Use sleeve lace measurements in M 16790. 1 F chapter 10 • Worn with ribbons, breast insignia, qualification device and name tag. • Garrison or Combination cap • Outerwear: trench coat 13

Service Dress Blue Bravo (woman’s) • Blue Service Dress Skirt or Service Dress pants • Coast Guard Ascot • Stockings (skin-tone) w/skirt • Black pumps, low heels • Combination cap 14

Winter Dress Blue • Can be worn except where coat and tie are more appropriate (i. e. , Service Dress Blue). • Long sleeve, Coast Guard Blue (CPO shirt) winter shirt and dress blue pants. • Coast Guard Blue (four-in-hand) tie. • Black shoes and socks. • Metal collar devices, name tag, ribbons, Qualification devices. • Garrison or Combination cap • Wooly-Pully can be worn with enhanced or soft shoulder boards • Outerwear: trench coat, windbreaker, all-weather/foul-weather parka 15

Tropical Blue • Worn year-round except where coat and tie are more appropriate • USAF Light blue short sleeve shirt w/epaulets and blue dress pants or dress skirt • Black socks and shoes • Shoulder boards, name tag, ribbons, Qualification devices • Garrison Combination cap • Wooly-Pully is okay • Outerwear: windbreaker, trench coat 16

Women’s Tunic New Item* • Good looks that travel light. It’s an attractive uniform optional item for plus sized women who prefer a more comfortable fitting shirt which goes to mid-hip length eliminating the need to wear a belt. • Plus sizes guaranteed from 22 W thru 30 W. • Machine washable, color and material are the same as the Tropical Blue Shirt. • Components for uniform are the same as Tropical Blue *If you are interested in ordering this (recently approved and authorized for immediate wear) optional wear Tunic for Auxiliary women, be sure and place your order with AUXCEN via your FSO-MA officer. When To Wear: Can be worn for all day, all-season wear as part of the Tropical Blue. 17

Blue Blazer Outfit • Auxiliary rings, lapel pins and blazer patch okay The Blue • Blazer outfit is highly recommended to be worn when an Auxiliarist in uniform does not present an appearance in keeping with • organizational standards of wear, or if the UDC does not stock or have properly fitting sizes. • Auxiliary Blue Blazer may substitute for all uniforms, except undress blue-summer, service dress blue (bravo) and working uniforms. • Blue Blazer worn with white or gray pants or skirt, white shirt, black shoes and tie for men. • NO military cover is worn • Outwear should match blazer color & style 18

Insignia • All insignia of office include the letter A (blue for elected and red for appointed) • Those who have never been an officer wear the Member Device on their collar. • Shoulder boards for appointed officers have red A inside silver shield and elected officers have a silver A. • Wear the small metal collar device with the undress blue-summer uniform. 27

Name Tag • • White with CG blue lettering. 3 3/16 in. wide and 5/8 in. high. Surname only OR Formal first name and surname ü NO nicknames • US. Coast Guard Auxiliary below name. 28

Ribbons and Medals • May be worn on all uniforms, except the Undress, Working and Blue Blazer. • Worn in order of precedence from inboard to outboard. • Only Federal Service Ribbons and Medals are authorized, • State Guard, R. O. T. C. And C. A. P. medals and ribbons are not authorized. • All rows, except the top row, will contain 3 ribbons. • Worn with lower edge of bottom row about 1/4 in. above left breast pocket. 29

Collar Devices • Open collared short sleeve shirt - placed on center of collar flap, along a line bisecting collar • Long sleeved Light blue and winter blue (with tie) - placed parallel to front edge of collar 31

Proper Placement of Ribbons, Name Tag, Qualification Devices • Lowest row of ribbons is 1/4” above top of pocket • 1 st breast device is 1/4” above ribbons • 2 nd breast device is 1/4’ below top of pocket • Ribbons and breast devices on left • Name tag on right, 1/4” above pocket • Badges may include AUXOP, Command insignias, staff ID, Recruiting and past officer.
