Explain the reasons for the Louisiana Purchase. Describe the major events and outcomes of Lewis and Clark's expedition. Understand other events during Westward Expansion including the acquisition of Texas, Oregon Trail, and California Gold Rush. Explain the impact of new inventions of this time including the telegraph, steam boat, and steam locomotive. Understand the impact of Westward Expansion on the Native Americans. Identify the causes that lead the American Civil War. Discuss how the issues of states' rights and slavery impacted the North and the South. Describe the role of Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. Explain the differences of the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and Bleeding Kansas and how those laws affected the Northern and Southern states. Describe the impact of the steamboat, the steam locomotive, and the telegraph on life in America. c. Describe the impact of westward expansion on Native Americans. SS 5 H 1 The student will explain the causes, major events, and consequences of the Civil War. b. Discuss how the issues of states’ rights and slavery increased tensions between the North and South. d. Describe the roles of Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Your Task: By the end of this presentation you will use the reading strategies

Your Task: By the end of this presentation you will use the reading strategies and knowledge of primary and secondary sources to create a project over one of the topics you learned about. Historians, you will be working in a group to: -Locate and use 2 primary sources and 2 secondary sources to formulate your research ideas about a time period. -Create a Prezi, Powerpoint, Movie Maker movie, or a Glogster about the time period you researched. - Present the project to the class.

Student Roles Head Researcher: The job of the head researcher is to find resources

Student Roles Head Researcher: The job of the head researcher is to find resources and help assemble information. They aren't the only one responsible for research! Note Taker: The note taker is responsible for keeping notes organized and orderly. Again, the note taker isn't the only one responsible for taking notes, but they are to keep up with the notes from anyone in the group. Team Leader: As a team leader, you are to 'keep the peace'. If there is an issue beyond the team leader's control, it is their job to come get the teacher. The team leader helps with research, taking notes, technology, etc. , but their main role is to keep everyone in check. Technology Specialist: The technology specialist is in charge of typing up the final project and is in control of the computer aspect of the project. Just as with the other roles, the technology specialist is to help research and take notes.

You need to work together and compromise if there are disagreements! 2. Watch the video on primary and secondary sources to learn the difference between these two types of resources. 3. Go through the UNRAAVEL guide to learn how to use this beneficial reading strategy when reading non-fiction text. 4. Decide which event in history your group would like to research. The event must take place in any time period from Westward Expansion to Reconstruction. 5. Begin to research using the provided resources. Use a graphic organizer to take notes. Make sure to find at least 2 primary sources and 2 secondary sources. 6. While the head researcher and note taker keep researching, the other group members can begin creating your technology project. You can create a Prezi, Powerpoint, Popplet, Movie Maker movie, or Glogster. 7. Prepare your presentation! Decide who will be in charge of each part of the presentation. 8. Practice, practice!
