Compost And why it's important! By Seth C. and Evan W.
What Compost Is Compost is decaying organic matter that is made as a plant fertilizer/soil. Soil/fertilizer
No greenhouse gases If you Compost something compostable than it will not give off any greenhouse gasses like methane. But if you put compostable items in the landfill than it gives off a lot of methane gas. So over all compost helps us lower global warming. LANDFILLS ARE BAD!
Composting saves energy Composting saves us energy many different ways. One way composting saves us energy is by not having to build a big facility to hold the trash. Another way that it saves energy is not having the garbage trucks always driving around wasting fossil fuels. The last way it saves energy is by not having to use machines that run on electricity to compact the trash. Wasting fossil fuels!
No space taken up Composting doesn't take up space in your community unlike landfills. It turns into organic matter which helps plants grow making the world a better place. No space taken up!
Fun Facts - A person throws about away 7 pounds of trash per day. - Be sure not to compost non compostable thing because a glass bottle takes 1 million years to decompose. - 43% of waste in bins can be composted, so don’t waste food - All the wasted food in America can feed 25 million Americans or the whole population of Texas.
Conclusion So as you can see composting and recycling are very important for the environment. Composting can save energy, It does not release greenhouse gasses, and does not take up space in someone's community so make sure to compost and recycle!
