What is a complex sentence A sentence that consists of one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses. I like Sally because she is funny. Independent clause: subject + verb that can stand on its own I like Sally. Dependent clause: subject + verb that cannot stand on its own because there is a subordinating conjunction being used. because she is funny
What is the difference between compound and complex? Compound: Today is “nerd day”, and many students are dressed like nerds. (independent clause and a coordinating conjunction) Complex: Today is “nerd day” because of homecoming week. (dependent clause and a subordinating conjunction)
