$Complex Fractions and Unit Rates Objective: I will simplify complex fractions MAFS. 7. RP.$

Complex Fractions and Unit Rates Objective: I will simplify complex fractions MAFS. 7. RP. 1. 1: Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units. MAFS. 7. RP. 1. 3: Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error. (

Do Now O In ¼ hour, Aaron walks 7/8 mile. What is the rate in miles per hour?

$Complex fractions O You have decided to remodel your bathroom and put tile on$

Complex fractions O You have decided to remodel your bathroom and put tile on the floor. The bathroom is in the shape of a rectangle and the floor measures 14 ft 8 in long, 5 ft 6 in wide. The tile you wants to use costs $5/each and each tile covers 4 2/3 sq ft. If you only have $100, do you have enough money?

$Complex fractions Step 1: Make a model 14 ft 8 in 5 ft 6$

Complex fractions Step 1: Make a model 14 ft 8 in 5 ft 6 in 12 in = 1 ft A= b. h

$Complex fractions Step 2: convert to same unit rate (ft) ** all units must$

Complex fractions Step 2: convert to same unit rate (ft) ** all units must be the same** 14 8 ft = 14 2 ft = 44 12 3 3 5 6 ft = 5 1 ft = 11 12 2 2

$Complex fractions Step 3: Calculate area using the formula A=b. h A= ( 5$

Complex fractions Step 3: Calculate area using the formula A=b. h A= ( 5 ½) x (14 2/3) = (11/2) x (44/3) = 242/3 A= 80 2/3 sq ft

$Complex fractions Step 4: Calculate Ratio 80 2 3 4 2 3 242 3$

Complex fractions Step 4: Calculate Ratio 80 2 3 4 2 3 242 3 14 3

$Complex fractions Step 5 : Multiply tiles per cost 18 tiles x $5 =$

Complex fractions Step 5 : Multiply tiles per cost 18 tiles x $5 = $90 Enough?
