What’s the focus over the next couple of weeks? • Concentrating on Higher Education (HE) and UCAS • All students, regardless of intention, are required to complete a UCAS application • We know not everyone wants to go to university, but we want to make sure you have explored all your options in case you change your mind – THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR!!! • This is a good opportunity to pull together your qualifications, skills, and write a personal statement all which will be needed for job/apprenticeship applications also. • Completion is FREE – you only pay if you send an application to UCAS

What is ‘UCAS Apply 2021’? • The online system for applying for over 50,

What is ‘UCAS Apply 2021’? • The online system for applying for over 50, 000 courses at over 300 Higher Education (HE) institutions. • A system which brings together student applications, references and University admissions tutors. • The only way to apply for HE. • Last year, UCAS had over 450, 000 applications.

Key points about Apply 2021 • Registration & completion of an application is free • To send a completed application costs either ₤ 20 for one choice or ₤ 26 for up to 5 choices • Payment is by Debit/Credit card only (bursary students are refunded all or most of this fee) • Maximum of 5 course choices • Some exceptions apply • max of 4 medicine/dentistry/veterinary courses (5 th must be a different course) • Can only apply to Oxford or Cambridge, not both • MONEY IS NOT TAKEN UNTIL YOU COMPLETE ‘PAY AND SEND’ – you don’t pay and send if you are not going to go to university

How do I apply? • You are going to receive a UCAS Apply 2021

How do I apply? • You are going to receive a UCAS Apply 2021 instruction booklet by email and on Teams on Monday 15 th June. • Follow the step by step instructions in the booklet to complete your application • Record your username/password/personal ID on your phone or keep a secure written record of them. • If you lose these or forget them, you will need to ring UCAS or request an e-mail reminder.

To complete during w/c 15 th June… Personal details & Additional Information Education (you will need your GCSE/BTEC certificates/results slips) Employment Enter course choices if you already know what you want to apply for – or complete these in once you have decided • Select staff who will write your subject references on Unifrog (you have been e-mailed about this) • • • If you don’t know what courses you want to apply for – start your research! • Use Unifrog to make a shortlist, use the Career and Subject library tools. • Research courses on University websites or UCAS Course Search • Visit University Open Days (virtual events at the moment) • Book a careers appointment – e-mail CHinchliffe@themfg to arrange this.

Make sure you… • Use your available time wisely – I will be checking that everyone has registered with UCAS at the end of next week • Complete all the basic sections of your application. You will not be given time to do this in College in September • You must meet deadlines (see booklet) • We cannot change UCAS deadlines if you miss them • You are responsible for proof reading your own application and checking spelling, punctuation and grammar. If you do not do this your application may be sent off with errors – this can potentially lose you an offer.
