The Giver who? The book or the movie, which do you prefer? These two versions of the The Giver have so many differences, it is hard to decide the similarities. The main Characters are definitely the same, but many specific details about them are not similar.

The plot and theme are similar with the same outcome, Jonas being select as The Receiver of Memory. Rule after rule is discussed by the friends as they joke with each other. And of course, the main form of transportation for the community is the bicycle.

For starters, Jonas’ birth number is 19 in the book and 52 in the movie. In the book, Jonas sees the red apple while play catch with Asher, but in the movie he sees the green trees and Fiona’s red hair. Another major difference is the job assignments given to Asher, Fiona, and others mentioned. These differences are minor details in regards to the plot and theme.

I really liked watching the movie, but reading the book really fills in the gaps of missing details. I would recommend both to anyone who inquired, because I really felt involved and interested throughout both.
