Degrees • All adjectives have forms called degrees. • Describing adjectives are in positive

Degrees • All adjectives have forms called degrees. • Describing adjectives are in positive degree form (cold, frigid) • Adjectives that compare 2 things are in the comparative degree (colder, more frigid) • Adjectives that compare 3 or more things are in superlative degree (coldest, most frigid)

Rules forming Adjectives 1. For all one syllable and a few 2 syllable adjectives

Rules forming Adjectives 1. For all one syllable and a few 2 syllable adjectives add er to form comparative degree and est to form superlative degree. (tall-taller-tallest) 2. If an adjective ends with a single vowel and a consonant, double the consonant before adding the ending (big-bigger-biggest)
