Walmart History Sam Walton was born in 1918 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. After serving in the military in WW 2, he moved to Iowa, and later Arkansas, in which he gained valuable retail experience. This resulted in Sam being inspired to open up a small dime store called Walton’s 5&10. It was a huge success and it eventually lead to him opening up the first ever Walmart in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas. Did you know, if Walmart was a country, it would have the 26 th largest economy in the world.

Target History In 1902, George Dayton purchased Goodfellow Dry Goods store. After a few name changes this eventually became know as Target. John F. Geisse is credited with branding the chain while working for the Dayton Company in 1962. Eventually in the 1990 s, Target became a huge success and its expansion lead to the creation of Target Greatland Stores and Super. Target. Did you know that the George Dayton’s great grandson is now a former US senator and the current Governor of Minnesota.

Costco History Costco first opened up in 1976 under the name Price Club. Formerly

Costco History Costco first opened up in 1976 under the name Price Club. Formerly an air plane hangar in San Diego, California, Costco served as a small warehouse company. The growth of the industry brought success and eventually Costco was renamed and the first official one opened up in Seattle in 1983. Ten years later Price Club and Costco would merge to form what is known to day as just Costco. Did you know that Costco actually doubles as a pizza chain and is in fact one of America’s largest pizza chains with over 400 stores.
