Resident AUV operations at Axial Seamount will require periodic battery recharging and data transfer through a docking station integrated with the existing OOI Cabled Array. Power and communications to the subsea docking station can be provided from the offshore host platform, a shore cable or surface buoy. • Discussion: Saab and the University of Washington opened discussions concerning a Seafloor Resident system for use at Axial Seamount. Saab brought the opportunity to Modus Seabed Intervention, a subsea contracting specialist who have taken delivery of a Sabertooth this year and are the first company to offer this system into the open market. The Axial Seamount residency development is now very much considered as a collaborative effort between the parties. • Outcome: Discussions are ongoing between Modus and Saab concerning the possible supply of a pair of 3000 Meter depth rated Sabertooth systems c/w seafloor docking stations, which would be offered to the University of Washington for long term deployment on the Axial Seamount. University of Washington Wins, Saab Wins, Modus Seabed Intervention wins and we all learn. 3
