Crime Prevention Council Vision: Thunder Bay is a safe, inclusive and welcoming community. Mission: To enhance the safety and well-being of everyone in thunder bay by engaging the community and advancing ideas and actions that reduce crime, social disorder, victimization and fear of crime.
Crime Prevention Council Priority Areas
CSWB Planning • New legislation under the Police Services Act mandates every municipal council to prepare and adopt a CSWB plan. • Came into force on January 1, 2019; municipalities have until January 1, 2021 to develop a plan • Provincial Planning Framework to guide process
CSWB Planning • Establish a multi-sectoral advisory committee • Conduct consultations • Look at existing data • Identify key risks in the community and most vulnerable populations to these risks • Identify strategies to reduce these risks • Measure impacts of actions

CSWB Planning 2019 • Jan. 1: new legislation mandating every municipal council to prepare/adopt a CSWB plan • March 20: City Council appointed Crime Prevention Council as Advisory Committee for development/implementation • Aug-Sept: Steering Committee and Working Groups established • Oct. 21: Resolution from City Council RE: Joint Plan with FWFN • Dec. 11: Presentation to FWFN RE: Joint Plan
