Community-based Organization
COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION Ø A public or private non-profit organization that is representative of a community or a significant segment of a community and works to meet community needs. Ø Community-based organization is a process by which a community identifies needs and takes action, and in doing so extends and develops cooperative attitudes and practices. Ø A process that brings people together to collectively address problems, concerns of issues with goal of enhancing self-determination, achieving greater equality and affecting a shift in power relationships to benefit member of oppressed communities Ø Community-based organization covers a series of activities at the community level aimed at bringing about desired improvement in the social well being of individuals, groups and neighbourhoods.

COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION Ø Community mobilization is a process through which action is stimulated by a community itself, or by others, that is planned, carried out, and evaluated by a community’s individuals, groups, and organizations on a participatory and sustained basis to improve the health, hygiene and education levels so as to enhance the overall standard of living in the community Community’s • Individuals • Groups • Organizations Action • Planned • Carried out • Evaluated Standard of living Health Hygiene Education Ø Attempt to bring both human and non-human resources together to undertake developmental activities in order to achieve sustainable development.
What kind of leadership is needed to lead/mobilize a community? 1. The types of character/nature of individual that need in a community as a leader. 2. A person who able to (1) make decision, (2) suggestions, (3) solving the problems and (4) proposes some action and others willing to do it. 3. A person can use their creativity in making suggestions to the community management. 4. Willing to spend the time in creating an idea, planning, and implementing any action in developing the community. 5. Individual who are capable to mobilize the community from one stage into another stages.
MOBILIZE AND TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP Transformational leadership is a style of leadership where a leader works with community to identify needed change, creating a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executing the change in tandem with committed members of a group.
