Intentionality - Definition • • Determination to pursue an intended objective Thoughtfulness and deliberateness in action or decision Directed to attain goals in harmony with call and beliefs Engaging my world with purpose born from my understanding of humanity and divinity • Denotes purpose, faith, motivation, with concrete plans that direct our steps toward the consummation of the Kingdom of God • Intentionality brings together purpose, call, gifts, experience, skills
Intentionality - Leadership • Intentional congruency between the purpose, goals, functions, and activities of the community • Aligning community to ensure operational reality of strategic intent • As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. (Eph 4: 1)
Intentionality - Definition Leaders are intentional Leaders choose a direction/vision Leaders take responsibility for the consequences of their choices Leaders influence & align community intent Leaders sense their personal uniqueness Leaders understand the differences in others

Intentionality - Integrity • You should follow my example just as I follow Christ. 1 Co 11: 1 • • • Integrity – adhering to Christian principles Honesty. Being unimpaired. Complete. Wholeness. Integrity is validated by words & deeds The Baptists Disciples: Are you the One? Report what you have seen & heard. Lk 7: 22 People may doubt what you say but they will always believe what you do.
Intentionality - Integrity • Daily actions line up with heart values • May integrity & righteousness protect me, because my hope is in you. Ps 25: 21 • Speaking honestly is better. It takes a lot of stress out of our lives. “If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember what you said. ” Mark Twain • “The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out. ” Pr 10: 9
Intentionality - Integrity • • Integrity the highest value in community Does not need rules Refuses to Compromise Is the essence of everything successful Will never deceive If you have integrity nothing else matters If you don’t have integrity nothing else matters. It takes less time to do a thing right than to explain why you did it wrong. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Integrity – Story of Job God commends Job’s character, he is: Blameless Upright Fears God Shuns Evil Job lost His: Home Kids Wealth Health But he never gave up on God
Integrity – Story of Job’s wife asked, "Why do you still trust God? Why don't you curse him and die? “ Job replied, "Don't talk like a fool! If we accept blessings from God, we must accept trouble as well. " In all that happened, Job never once said anything against God. Job 2: 9 -10 Job never gave up on God Calamity is the test of integrity
Intentionality • Intentionality brings together call, purpose, spiritual gifts, skills, life experience • Intentionality harmonises planning, execution, monitoring & redirection • Intentionality develops plans, processes, and strategies • Intentionality are the links in the chain of successful Christian Leadership
Intentional Congruence • Personal & Community goals should be so inline as to be mutually beneficial to one another • Working towards any one of your goals should help accomplish some or all of the others • Congruence implies agreement, harmony, conformity with all my decisions & actions
Intentionality • Intentionality is about developing community who can use processes & strategies to implement projects & changes • Culture of the Community is the Key to Successful Implementation • Successful implementation requires us to analyse & understand the tasks, our people, their culture, and the structures within which they operate
Vision Statement Community Church Planting desires to populate all communities with spiritually maturing churches
Mission Statement Community Church Planting desires to populate all communities with spiritually maturing churches by mobilizing disciples to multiply disciples, pastors to multiply pastors, churches to multiply churches, and seminaries to graduate multiplying church planter trainers
Intentionality - Planning is a fundamental property of intelligent behaviour
Intentionality - Planning Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him…Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to appose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? (Lk 14: 28, 29, 31)
Intentionality - Planning • “By wisdom is a house built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures… for waging war you need guidance, and for victory many advisors” Pr 24: 5, 6 • Jesus headed a research team as he traveled throughout the Galilean towns and villages Mt 9: 35 -38 • God sent Gideon and Purah as researchers into the Midianite camp the night before the battle to scout and assess the circumstances of their enemy Jdg 7
Intentionality - Planning • “Every prudent man acts out of knowledge… a prudent man gives thought to his steps. ” (Pr 13: 16; 14: 15) • Our primary struggle in church planting is not going to be “… against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. ” (Eph 6: 12) • “To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue. . . Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. ” (Pr 16: 1, 2)
