Diversity defines our province African Nova Scotia Affairs Ø Working with government to serve 21, 000 African Nova Scotians and 50 African Nova Scotian communities, contributing to the rich diversity that defines Nova Scotia. Investing in Our Future A variety of funding programs, grants and awards are available for individuals and organizations in Nova Scotia. They are an important part of sustaining and growing our culture and heritage sectors. According to the 2010 Culture Satellite Account figures, arts, culture and heritage contribute about $868 million to Nova Scotia's economy, and more than 14, 000 jobs across the province. 5

Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Sport and Recreation leads government efforts and collaborates with communities to improve the quality of life of Nova Scotians through sport and recreation. It supports the sector to develop an effective and integrated system of high quality opportunities and supports for Nova Scotians to live actively. 6

Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Community Recreation Capital Grant This program assists in the development of small scale indoor and outdoor capital recreation projects, less than $20, 000. Ø Public, community recreation purposes Ø Items of a permanent, non-consumable, capital nature Ø Projects where the need for financial assistance is demonstrated Applications are available through-out the year. Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Recreation Facility Development This Program assist community groups, municipalities and other ‘not-forprofit’ organizations to develop facilities in order to increase participation in sport and physical recreation. Ø Recreation centres and halls Ø pools, arenas, athletic field, parks and playgrounds and trails Ø Enhanced schools for community use Ø Other facilities that promote sport and physical recreation Approved projects are eligible to receive up to one-third of the total capital cost of the project to a maximum of $150, 000. Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Planning Assistance Program The Planning Assistance Program assists community organizations and municipalities in obtaining professional assistance in planning, designing and researching proposed and existing sport and recreation facilities. Funding is available for up to 50 percent of the total cost of the project to a maximum of $5, 000. Applications are available through-out the year. Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Regional Development Grant Designed to partner with regional, community, local or municipal organizations involved in physical activity, sport or recreation to increase opportunities for participation. Ø Increase public awareness of the health, economic, social and personal benefits of physical activity, sport and recreation Ø Increase the number of skilled and knowledgeable volunteers and professional leaders in physical activity, sport and recreation Ø To improve the capacity of community organizations that provide physical activity, sport and recreation opportunities Funding is available for up to 50 percent of the total cost of the project to a maximum of $15, 000. Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Gender Equity Capacity Building Support Fund Designed to help physical activity, sport and recreation organizations create supportive organizational policies, and practices, to increase the engagement of diverse women and girls in sport, and recreation. Ø Education and training sessions Ø Board development workshops, organizational assessment activities Ø Gender and diversity analysis Ø Policy and action plans Applications are available throughout the year. Investing in Our Future Sport and Recreation Funding Programs Trail Maintenance Program Funding to community trail groups who are involved in regular and on-going maintenance on their trails, as well as emergency funding for major maintenance issues due to fire and weather related events. Community Trails Leadership Fund This program supports trail development through the provision of funds for: Leaders, organizational development and capacity building for community trail groups Engineering Assistance Grant Program Provides trail builders and managers with funding for professional engineering expertise, including planning and design work of bridges or other large structures. Investing in Our Future Communities Nova Scotia Legion Capital Assistance Program (LCAP) Ø assist Royal Canadian with capital upgrades to existing buildings used to house legion events and community activities. Ø provide up to 50% of total eligible costs to a maximum of $10, 000 Ø Applications for the 2017 -18 Legion Capital Assistance Program (LCAP) will be accepted from Friday April 14 th to May 19 th.
