RECEPTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE SKILLS Receptive Listening Reading Productive Speaking Writing Which skills are easiest for you to learn? To teach? Where do grammar and vocabulary fit? What does it mean to teach these skills in a communicative way?

4 SKILLS In 4 groups, brainstorm together and create a list of activities you do with your skill in real life. Write your list on the board for your fellow trainees. Here are some examples: Read a novel for pleasure Listen to a teacher’s lecture Write an email Speak to a friend on the telephone

GROUP WORK How can you turn some of these activities into lessons for your students? Choose a communicative goal and a language goal for your students and plan a few activities to help your students meet this goal. Try to include all 4 skills! You may use your book for ideas: Reading – pages 283 -302 Listening – pages 303 -322 Writing – pages 323 -342 Speaking – pages 343 -363
