Scholars have made many attempts to define communication, but seeking a single working definition may not be as fruitful as probing the various concepts behind the term. ” (littlejohn, 2005: 2 )

The sender chooses the message to communicate within a context. Sender / Encoder - a person (individual, group, organization) who sends the message. A sender makes use of symbols (words or graphic or visual aids) to convey the message and produce the required response.
