Prototypical User: [Meet James] Meet James. He’s your average driver who uses his car

Prototypical User: [Meet James] Meet James. He’s your average driver who uses his car to drive to work, shuttle his children to soccer practice, and run errands. James gets frustrated when accidents disrupt traffic on his commute and he has no way of knowing how to avoid the gridlock. Additionally, he makes a lot of commercial transactions while running errands. He’d love it if his car could help handle some of these for him. He was also recently the victim of a hit-and-run. Because he was unable to track down the perpetrator, James is now burdened with insurance claims and a busted car.

Communi. Car Systems: [The Idea] Our interface introduces a communication system that enables cars

Communi. Car Systems: [The Idea] Our interface introduces a communication system that enables cars to receive and transmit crucial information about the environment, other cars, and commercial entities. If fully implemented, such a system could ultimately help increase safety and convenience for the driver (and safety for the community as a whole).

Underlying Technology *On the car interface* Welcome, James! Where would you like to go? Home Work Other The automobile generally only needs the standard technology expected from modern cars like GPS, radio, etc. A minimal requirement is that the car must have a centrally-located screen with interactive capabilities. For Communi. Car Systems, the car must have the ability to communicate and receive information from other sources through a wireless system. The interface is embedded into the surrounding driving environment as well. Potential technologies include NFC, RFID, and Bluetooth.

Hit & Run Scenario: [The Collision] H S A CR Pictured: Transmission of information

Hit & Run Scenario: [The Collision] H S A CR Pictured: Transmission of information between the cars James’ car has been rear-ended by another driver. With Communi. Car Systems, there is a transmission of vital information between the two cars when they collide. He pulls over to inspect the damage, but the perpetrator has already driven off without James getting his license plate number.

Hit & Run Scenario: [Security] Police. Scanner 300 X Collision Detected! GXG 4 TK and PRYX 2 at 4: 25 PM[…] Car Registration Info Collision Details When the police arrive on the scene, James shows them the damage to his car. The policeman takes a scanner to retrieve the encrypted information from James’ car. His device displays detailed, encrypted information about the license plate numbers involved, car registration information, details about the collision (MPH, time, etc. ), etc. He uses this information to file a police report, and James is relieved.

After he orders, a payment request appears on his screen to confirm his order. After he confirms payment, the request is transmitted to the store employee. James gets his food, and he didn’t have to handle payment during the order.

Commercial Usage: [Other] Payment Received! $4. 50 Communi. Car Systems has many potential commercial usages and functions which include, but are not limited to: - Hassle-Free Parking Payments - Efficient Highway Toll Payments - Designated Parking Spots - Payment for Automobile Services

Traffic Notifications: [Choosing Routes] *On the car interface* Traffic Notification Accident on your normal

Traffic Notifications: [Choosing Routes] *On the car interface* Traffic Notification Accident on your normal commute route. Delay of 30 minutes Change Route James is about to enter a freeway on his normal commute to work. A roadside beacon transmits information to his car. The car tells James about a delay in his normal commute and provides the option to change routes. James takes another route to work and saves time due to the real-time information transmitted.

Ambulance sends signal to beacon to alert the communicative network A beacon near James’ car transmits information from the network James’ car interface lets him know about the ambulance and where its location

Additional Usages With Communi. Car Systems, the technology for cars to communicate with other

Additional Usages With Communi. Car Systems, the technology for cars to communicate with other cars, their driving environment, and other physical entities could easily be applied to a wide variety of uses including : - Beacons at specific locations that passively pull information from nearby cars in the event of a crime or emergency (Pictured) In this scenario, a bank would have a beacon as a crime deterrent. In the event of a robbery or other crime, law enforcement would be able to see what cars had been in the vicinity during the event. -”Tagging” of cars for groups that are travelling together -Communicating with packs of cars on the freeway
