Women Working Then: Now: o Women were NOT given promotions in the 1960 s. o Women can now be given promotions. o Women just started working in the 1960 s. o Men and Women now work together. o Women were paid less in the 1960 s. o Women are still paid less then men.
Women Ad’s Then: o There were 2 types of women ad’s, they were either used attractively or used as a housewife. o In ad’s, women were the cooks of the house. o Women were mainly used in ad’s to persuade men to purchase an item. Now: o There are way more than just 2 types of women in ad’s now. o Now in ad’s, women aren’t just the cooks anymore, men have also gotten involved. o Now men are used to persuade women to purchase an item.
Women Education Then: Now: o It was less likely for women to get a high school diploma. o Men and Women both are likely to get a high school diploma. o Women were less encouraged to go to college. o Women are encouraged to go to collage. o Women’s classes were limited. o Women now have the same amount of classes as Men.
Women Responsibilities Then: o Women would take care of the children. o Women would cook for her family. o Women would clean the house. Now: o Daycare exists now, so women don’t have to take care of the children. o Both, Men and Women cook and occasionally children. o Maids help families around the house.
Women Body Expectations Then: Now: o Women were expected to have a slender frame. o Women should be skinny but healthy. o Women were expected to have thin, long, slim legs. o Women are expected to have large butt. o Women were also expected to have a flat butt. o Women are expected to have a flat stomach.
Men Career’s Then: Now: o Men were usually a doctor in the 1960 s. o Men are usually mechanics in the 21 st century. o Men were also known for being a lawyer in the 1960 s. o Men are usually a home appliance now a days. o Men were also pilots in the 1960 s. o Men, now a days are construction workers.
Men Sports/Activities Then: Now: o Men would watch/play football in the 1960 s. o Its not uncommon to see men doing ballet, and cheerleading. o Men would usually watch/play baseball. o Another popular sport for men is tennis and lacrosse. o Men would usually play/watch basketball. o Football is still a very popular sport for men.
Men Education Then: o Men in the 1960 s had a better chance of getting enrolled in collage then women. . o Men were less likely to graduate high school then women. o Men were more encouraged to go to collage then women. Now: o Men were less likely to go to collage at a public school. (7%, us) o In private schools, the enrollment of male and female is 19%. o It is (depending on where you live) a big difference on weather you get enrolled in collage.
Men Responsibilities Then: Now: o Men’s responsibilities were to take care of the house. o Men are still expected to provide for their family. o Men’s main job were to protect their family. o Men are expected to be the “Handy Man” of the house. o Men would provide their family with a house, food and water (etc). o Men are expected to be the “The Man Of The House” and protect their family.
Men Body Expectations Then: o Men were very skinny in the 1960 s. o Men did not care about fitness in the 1960 s. o Men usually had messy hair styles in the 1960 s. Now: o Men want to have a toned/lean body. o Men now a days want a lean sixpack. o Men in the 21 st century want muscular arms.

(In your own opinion) -Women didn’t work or drive, they stayed at home and took care of the house and children. Ø If you could change one thing that happened in the 1960 s, what would it by and why? -I was very happy in the 1960 s, I wouldn’t change anything. Ø Were you personally offended by the commercials they were airing on TV about women being used for cleaning purposes? -No I wasn’t, I love cleaning. Ø In the 1960 s, would you say you were a socs or a greaser? Explain why. -I was a socs because i had a nice car and a nice house. Ø Did you have a job in the 1960 s? If so what was it and if not what was your dream job? -No, I wanted to travel the world as an airline stewardess.
Bonus Extension #2 By: Taylor Trombley Ø What could you say differed about boy rules and girl rules in the 1960 s? - In the 1960 s, the rules were boys got to stay out later then the girls, for example, on the weekends the girls curfew was 11: 00 pm and the boys curfew was 12: 00 am. Ø Did you take offense to any of the women in commercials/ad’s, if so why or why not? -No, not back then, that’s just how things work. Ø How was a day of school like for you in the 1960 s? -We couldn’t wear pants, unless it was 40 degrees, we only could wear dresses and skirts. Ø Did you believe you were treated different from the boys in the 1960 s? -Yes, boys got away with more. Boys could ride motorcycles to school, girls couldn’t. Girls were also expected to keep their mouth shut.
