DEFINE COMMITMENT • Commitment is the feeling to want to finish something and to not give up. • A promise or firm decision to do something. • Making a Commitment involves dedicating yourself to something, like a person or a cause. WHAT DOES COMMITMENT MEAN ACADEMICALLY • It could mean having a passion for learning or thriving to get good grades. • Dedicated to what you are doing or working on. • Asking questions or just being quiet to show that you actually care. • Visit teacher after class. • Turning in homework on time. • Studying for tests. • Contributing and working together on group work • Always being prepared for class. • Academic honesty.
HOW DOES BEING COMMITTED HELP AT SCHOOL • • • Being committed can help you be more dedicated to learning. • • • When you don’t make a team or club stay committed and try again. Help your school out in anyway possible. Being committed means that you are dedicated to help fellow students as well as the community. Helps you get good grades by being committed to your school and classes. Trying your hardest to get your grades where they are supposed to be and manage sports at the same time. When you join a sport you have to stay committed to it and play a full season and don’t give up. If you join NJHS and you are the president you have to stay committed and be there for every meeting, have good grades, and be a good leader.
EXAMPLES OF A STUDENT WHO IS NOT COMMITTED ACADEMICALLY • When a student is putting his social life in front of his school life and proceeds to miss homework and not study. • When a student goes to his practices after school without finishing his homework or studying. • When a student does not have all of his schoolwork as his first priority and does not make up time to do his school work. • When a student does not go to his teachers to ask for help when he is struggling with a concept.
EXAMPLES OF A STUDENT WHO IS COMMITTED ACADEMICALLY • • • Doing homework and turning it in on time Studying in a group for a test. Going to a tutor/meet with your teacher if you are confused. Get good grades on your report card. They will work hard. They will get good grades. They will listen in class. Ask the teachers a lot of questions. Get assignments done when needed to Get to school early
