Verbs in French The present tense in French (le présent) The present tense in French is a lot like the present tense in English. It can be used to express the following: 1. Current actions or situations 2. Habitual actions 3. Actions that will take place immediately Je parle français. Je mange le souper à 17 h. J’arrive. Je mange. = I eat, I do eat, I am eating Nous patinons. = We skate, we do skate, We are skating.
Verbs in French Formation: Infinitive verbs that end in -ER To form the present tense, take the infinitive form of the verb, take off the –er, and add the following endings according to the subjects: je (j’) tu il, elle, on nous vous ils, elles -e -ons -ez -ent

Verbs in French Negation (Making negative sentences) � In French, like in English, sentences or statements are either affirmative or negative. � To form a negative sentence in French we use the adverbs ne (n’) and pas. � These two little words are placed around the verb and “sandwich” it in the sentence. � If you would say don’t or doesn’t in English, it’s a negative sentence, so use the negation in French!
