Question What would it take for you to turn your back on your best friend?
Imagine… A world war has began. You are the leader of a European country and must decide what to do. You promised other countries you would have their back (alliances). Do you join right in when they pick a fight? Do you wait and see what happens? If you don’t join the war now, you may end up being invaded and have to defend yourself. If you do join now there may be massive casualties, you can be defeated, and lose territory in any treaties. How can you make this decision?

If we are going to survive, we need to have the best technology. We must be able to defeat all enemies…. Arms race: countries competing to have the best, newest technology, army, navy, etc…
Alliances Countries created powerful combinations so that no one would attack them. A united front. Triple Alliance: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy (Central Powers) Triple Entente: Great Britain, France, Russia (Allies)

Austria declared war, Russia took action to defend Serbia, and allies all over Europe were triggered into action….
