COMBINING TECHNIQUES Objective: You will describe combinations and analyze steps in order to combine shading, collage, and designs for more variety in your mandala. DRILL: 40 PTS WITH EXTRA CREDIT OPTIONS Get these supplies: 1. 2. 3. 4. i. Pad Book paper (phone book page or newspaper) 2+ colored pencils Sharpie (sign out) or black colored pencil 1. List 3 or more combinations that you can make with the lessons that we have learned? -collage, designs, shading, (paint) 2. Combine 2 or more of the lessons into one.

Paint your own collage paper:
Combinations: • Lines/ shapes, shade on it. • Paint on newspaper. • Shade on scrap paper. (envelope) • Lines/ shapes on scrap paper. • Paint book paper then draw designs on it. • Designs on tissue paper • All 3 – shade on scrap paper, then line/ shape designs.
Combining Techniques DIRECTIONS: 1. Get a piece of book paper. 2. Use 2 colored pencils to create 2 areas of gradual shading/ value. 3. Use sharpie or black colored pencil to create designs on top of the shading. 4. Look at LINE/ SHAPE folders or Zentangles online.

Criteria for Mandala 1. Drawing of bamboo or flower from observation. 2. Quadrilateral symmetry - mandala 3. A variety of lines and shapes in negative space. (8+ designs/ patterns) 4. Shading (Value) in neg. space (8+) 5. At least 8 exact fit collage pieces or mosaic in neg space. 6. Repetition of elements to create Unity 7. Difficulty- DETAIL 8. Creativity- Individual problem solving 9. Craftsmanship- neatness 10. Composition- CONTRAST placement/ arrangement of elements.
