Better Than the Harpers Ferry Model 1803? Our Springfield’s main competitor is the Harpers Ferry Model 1803. We believe that our Springfield gives a much larger advantage to the soldiers fighting in the Civil War and also to the people who practice in shooting ranges. One major advantage that the Springfield has unlike the Ferry Model is that the Springfield has the new and improved percussion lock. The percussion locks prevents miss fires, and makes it easier to have a successful shot in humid/rainy conditions unlike it’s predecessor, the flint lock. Another advantage that our Springfield has is it’s long, 40 inch barrel which helps increase the velocity and accuracy of the bullet. The Harpers Ferry, on the other hand, has a shorter 33 inch barrel.

Georgia Standard M 8 A 4 The Springfield 1861 has a great range of around 620 yards. When the Minié ball is traveling through the air, it has a deadly, straight, and accurate slope of zero. This means that the bullet doesn’t rise and run, it just runs straight from left to right 0/x. A reason that the shot is so accurate is because of the Minié ball. This bullet is a conical-cylindrical bullet and when you fired it, gas would hit the base of the bullet causing it to leave the barrel and making an accurate and deadly shot.

Georgia Standard S 8 P 5 When the Minié ball is fired from the rifle it will eventually reach 620 yards. When it reaches 620 yards, the bullet loses speed and power. Projectile motion’s horizontal and vertical motion will act together creating a curved path, causing the Minié ball to hit the ground.
