How the Colour System works • Your teachers will nominate you to achieve a

How the Colour System works • Your teachers will nominate you to achieve a Colour within their subject area, based on your progress, attainment, effort and enthusiasm. • They will nominate you based on a criteria that has been put together for each Half and Full Colour for each area. • If you achieve a Half or Full Colour in an area, you will be rewarded with a badge to wear, along with a letter sent home. • You will need to work extremely hard to be rewarded with a Full-Colour; aspire to be the best that you can be.

Half Colours Sports Criteria • Attend practice regularly, at least 90% of after school

Full Colours Sports Criteria • • • Represent the school without fail. Play at an outstanding level. Demonstrate leadership within training sessions. Demonstrate excellent sportsmanship. Represents a team or club outside of school.

Half Colours Community Criteria • Helpful and welcoming around school to staff, peers and visitors. • A positive attitude demonstrated at all times (behaviour log as evidence). • Assisted in school events e. g. showing visitors around school, at least termly. • A good example set to younger students. • Always correctly dressed. Full Colours Community Criteria • Representing Beechwood School within community events (e. g. visiting primary schools) • Always volunteers their time to assist with whole school events. • Instils positive behaviour in their peers. • An extremely good role model.

Half Colours Leadership Criteria • Has taken on a leadership role within a team or club • Always leads by good example; particularly with behaviour and uniform. • Represents the School Council • Successfully taking part in either- Literacy leaders, Maths leaders, Lower School Leaders, Sports Leaders, Dance Leaders, Prefect Full Colours Leadership Criteria • • • Achieved highly in one of the listed leadership opportunities. Appointed to Head Girl or Head Boy Appointed to Head Prefect Has made a positive contribution to help at school events. Working with local primary schools or volunteer within the community.

Half Colours Arts Criteria • Participate in an ‘arts’ club activity on a regular basis. (At least alternate weeks). • Represent the department in ‘arts’ promotional events (newsletter, open evening, assemblies, trips). • Be an Arts leader/prefect, with a good service record. • To demonstrate a dedication to outperforming their target grades in at least one of the Arts subjects. Full Colours Arts Criteria • Take on a lead role in an after school Arts activity each week. • Be an active and effective Arts leader/prefect, assisting and being a role model to other students. • Demonstrate a consistently high level of skill within their work in at least one of the Arts subjects. • Run workshops/ demonstrate mentoring skills in performance outside of school in an area of the Arts, such as working on a community based project.

Full Colours Academic Criteria • At least on target in all subject areas and above target in at least four subjects over one academic year. • Additional learning is consistently produced to an outstanding standard, with no pieces missed over the course of an academic year. • Attains academic excellence through active participation in all lessons and often takes the role of leader when engaged in peer learning. • Early entry to examinations, where possible.

Show a very good understanding of science, technology, engineering and maths, in all areas. Be able to confidently work collaboratively with other year groups on STEM. Make good progress in all STEM subjects at department level. Give a high level response to a STEM competition and recognised in the top three. Full Colours STEM Criteria • Participate in team STEM activities to an outstanding level. • To take a lead when working collaboratively on STEM activities with other year groups. • Demonstrate a high level of inter school collaboration in STEM activities while representing the school. • Make outstanding progress in all STEM subjects. (4 levels +) • Work at a national/regional level for a STEM activity, gaining merit accreditation.

Further Information • The colours will be awarded at two points in the school year! These will be in the last week of the two half-terms (February and May) • You can achieve more than one colour! Aspire to have a very colourful blazer across your time at Beechwood School!
