INTRODUCTION • Photography is the world’s most popular hobby. But, have you ever thought about what makes the color in a picture? How long pictures have been in color? In this presentation, you will learn about the man who created color photography, the man who helped capture it and the two brothers who invented the first commercially successful color process. Also, you will learn about how color photography was first invented, how it works and how it was discovered.
WHO: • Color photography was first experimented by James Clerk Maxwell in 1855 and later taken by Thomas Sutton in 1861. • Later, the French Lumière brothers invented the first commercially successful color process, The Lumière Auto chrome. • Although the Lumière Brothers had the first successful color process, another major accomplishment of theirs was that their 1895 screening of a series of short films created with the cinematograph at a café in Paris is considered the first public cinema performance in history. • Auguste Lumière was born October 19, 1862 and Louis Lumière was born October 15, 1864. • Some interesting facts about them were that they were both born in Besanҫon, France.

WHAT: • The first color photograph was made by the three color method suggested by James Clerk Maxwell in 1855 and taken by Thomas Sutton. • Later, the French Lumière brothers invented the first commercially successful color process, the Lumière Autochrome. • The first experiment in 1861 by James Clerk Maxwell had 3 photos in black and white were taken using red, green and blue filters. . These photos were then projected in registration with the appropriate color filters, producing an image with color. This is the Color Separation Method and it is one of the earliest attempts in color photography. Clerk-Maxwell in fact created the first permanent color image in history. In color photography, all the colors can be made up from mixtures of red, blue, and green. Color film has three layers of light-sensitive material, each of which reacts to one of these colors. Colored dyes are produced in each layer, and the layers combine to make the photographic image.

HOW DID THIS REVOLUTIONIZE PHOTOGRAPHY: • The invention of photography really changed the future of photography. Pictures went from black and white to in color. • Also, we are now able to see more details in pictures with color. • Color photography is consistently being changed and improved.
Then Now
CONCLUSION • In conclusion, color photography was one of the biggest transitions in photography history because pictures went from black and white to in color. James Clerk Maxwell first invented color photography in 1855 using the three color method. It was taken by Thomas Sutton in 1861 and later the Lumière brothers invented the first commercially successful color process, known as the Lumière autochrome. The first experiment in 1861 by James Clerk Maxwell had 3 photos in black and white were taken using red, green and blue filters. .
