College High School PILO T Progr am Summer Bridge 2017 SUMMER PILOT PROGRAM
Goal: A four week program to increase college readiness, persistence, retention, and graduation rates of firsttime, full-time, first-generation students. Summer Bridge Summary Offer students access and information about different resources they can utilize through their time in college. Introduce scholars to the structure and rigor of college while fostering meaningful academic and social connections.
Objectives • Navigate the rigor and demands of college • Attend to their individual intellectual, psychological, and physical well-being • Provide resources and connections to enhance their academic journey • Begin fall term prepared to navigate the college environment Hermiston BMCC
Cohort Information • HB 3063 target group First Time • First-generation students • Entering college in the fall (first-time student) • Have earned at least 12 college credits in high school Historically Underrepresented Low Income • Will be full-time BMCC students HB 3063 Cohort
TMCC Site Visit Takeaways • Offer supplemental instruction for all students with tutors • Provide everything (lunch, transportation, books, tuition) • Structured for first time, low income and historically underrepresented • Accept multiple assessments for placement
Daily Schedule • Have a “Welcome Day” so students can get information and materials to come ready on the first day 8: 00 am Transportation 9: 00 am Instruction Time • Provide lunch 11: 00 am Supplemental Instruction • Provide transportation 12: 00 pm Lunch/Campus Culture 1: 00 pm Specialized Programming Student Success • Require tutoring, if not proficient 3: 00 pm Support Services 4: 00 pm Transportation Program Recommendations • Workshops to bridge the knowledge gap • Specialized programming including Success Coaching, Financial Aid Advising, and Student Life Activities • Soft Skills

GEAR UP Academic Enrichment Program 2016 Students: • 5 plan to attend BMCC after graduation • 4 want to come back as peer mentors for summer 2017 • 4 are taking Early College Credit
