College Expectations Guidance for 2020

Key College Info Please make sure you’ve watched the Health and Safety guidance presentation

Key College Info Please make sure you’ve watched the Health and Safety guidance presentation so you know how to keep safe around College We are strongly recommending that all students and staff wear face masks in communal areas. This includes: corridors, stairwells, toilets and Café areas, on College transport, as well as public transport If you forget, lose or break your mask whilst at College please go to the LRC for a replacement. There will be a nominal fee of 50 p per mask. If you forget your lanyard, we will not be issuing replacements Café Max and Café Min will both be operating a ‘grab and go’ system which means sandwiches and paninis only. Is it card only and there will be no vending machines. Water filling stations will be available and the cashpoint will be operating. Bus tickets should be bought online using the m-ticket app where possible. No sitting in corridors or under stairs!

What do I do in my study periods, over lunch or if I’ve got

What do I do in my study periods, over lunch or if I’ve got work to do? There will be a bookable system for IT in the LRC. There will be a link on the College jump page that you should follow to book a designated computer at a particular time. This will be live from the week of the 7 th September. We’ll also let you know of classrooms that will be opened as study spaces. You will need to make sure you follow the guidance on wiping down equipment for any computers or spaces you use. Laura has sent you a survey about your IT access. Please respond as soon as possible if you haven’t already. We’ll then decide how best we can support you to access your online learning.

What if I’m unwell or need to sign out? It’s so important that you

What if I’m unwell or need to sign out? It’s so important that you call or email in if you’re unwell. This means ringing the absence line on 0117 9710849 or emailing attendance@Stbrn. ac. uk Please, please do this every day you are absent and tell us why you are off. During COVID 19 it is ESSENTIAL for everyone’s safety that we know who is unwell and if they have symptoms, are isolating, or awaiting test results. We need to know so we can support you to access learning at home, make sure you’re ok and manage your return to College safely. If you are absent without telling us why, we will be calling you and your parents urgently. If you need to sign out during the College day, this will now be done using an online form with details being available through tutorial.

Can I still visit staff in their offices? Try to avoid ‘popping by’ offices.

Can I still visit staff in their offices? Try to avoid ‘popping by’ offices. If it’s unavoidable, knock and wait before being asked to enter. In some offices there is simply not enough room for visitors, so you may be asked to go to an empty classroom for a discussion. If you do visit an office, we will record your name for tracking purposes. Mentors will now be holding 1: 1 s online using Teams and we will also hold meetings with parents/carers on Teams or over the phone, rather than a face to face meeting (until October half term at least). An email is now preferable to a visit. So it’s really important you check your student email!

Behaviour in lessons and around College Safety is our priority. It should be yours

Behaviour in lessons and around College Safety is our priority. It should be yours as well. Whilst we appreciate you may not have seen your friends for some time and humour can be a good way to cope with what can be a stressful situation, it is not ‘funny’ to cough in people’s faces or to pretend to do so. Pushing into others or making physical contact with them ‘as a joke’ will not be tolerated. It is no longer possible for you to sit in close groups or be in unsupervised rooms during lunches or throughout the College day. All students must strictly follow the health and safety procedures when moving around College, upon entering and exiting classrooms, or using equipment. We know it may take time to get used to new habits and routines but active or deliberate refusal to follow or comply with guidelines will be dealt with under the Positive Behaviour Management Policy. We need you to look after each other. If you see something you think should not be happening, please contact a member of staff. Be clear: we will not have students who cannot adhere to our guidelines on College site.
