Signing up for classes n n n If they have a frosh orientation---GO! Ask other people who the good professors are Take a manageable credit load the first term —realize you CAN do college Get a class catalog and plan your term sequences wisely Use the internet to sign up—find out the first dates classes are available and get into them fast
Before Class n n Go to the bookstore as soon as you finalize your classes Buy used texts (notes, etc. ) from bookstore (school, Powell’s) or internet (EBay, Half. com, Craigslist, etc--be careful of correct editions)
During Class n n n Take notes Use taping ONLY if necessary, if you do, STAY AT CLASS Compare notes to others Go over notes as soon as you can (maybe immediately after) Read class materials BEFORE class
Study Habits n n n Find a quiet (but safe) place Schedule one day a week where you have no classes or work (if possible) Follow the syllabus. Seriously. Be organized—find a system that works for you Use the little times to study whenever possible (on the bus, waiting for next lecture, commercials, etc. ) Get together with other students to study, be careful and selective
