Where does Data Come From? PRIMARY SOURCE SECONDARY SOURCE Someone who collects data for their own use for a specific purpose. Data collected by someone else for some other purpose (but being utilized by the investigator for another purpose). Example: Data collected by a student for his/her thesis or research project. How do you create good survey questions? �Just like an unrepresentative sample, the wording of questions can also introduce bias into a survey. A survey should be as free from bias as possible.
LOADED QUESTIONS LEADING QUESTIONS TYPE S OF BIAS Contains wording or information to influence a response. Example: Where do you enjoy drinking coffee? When suggested answers are provided, the reader might be swayed to one side of the argument. Bad Ex: How short was Napoleon? Good Ex: How would you describe Napoleon's height? SAMPLING BIAS When people you survey have something in common which make one response appear more popular. RESPONSE BIAS When people deliberately give the wrong answer/lie. NON RESPONSE BIAS When people do not complete the survey – leave questions blank.
