This is our School: Colégio Sesi Loanda Apparently a standard school, well, in fact it is, but take a good look to the picture above. Let me help you: The Brazilian Legislation has guidelines on traffic signs near schools: A speed limit frame, a crosswalk and an area intended to students arrivals. Can you see them?

This problem bothered us: We don’t need to take much time to ask: What about the other schools of our city? We investigated!

See this one in particular: Municipal School Alvehy Alves de Assis: In addition of the lack of traffic signaling, the road asphalt is always in poor condition caused by excess of trucks that passes by the road most of them above the speed limit.

Obviously, we realized that the problem is present in the whole city. This campaing was not about our school only. It’s about correct the problem of traffic signaling about the entire city.

To build an academic perspective about this problem we did a brief study about the book The Right to the City of the french sociologist Henri Lefebvre. Then, we conclude that: urban planning is the responsibility of the State and if we wanted to correct all identified problems we need to dialogue with public authorities.

Then, we decided to submit an aplication to the City Council asking for maintenance of traffic signaling near the schools. For our claim to gain legitimacy we collect the signature of several citizen in a sheet like below: Citizen's name Identification document code Signature

Students requesting signatures We got about 500 signatures

Finally, after all investigation and work collecting citizens signature, it's time to visit City Council to submit our application.
