Creating Coils: **Clay must be very plastic!!!!!!!** 1. Use even pressure when rolling OR squeeze hanging vertically 2. Uniform shape & long enough to fit around edge 3. Thumb Thick

Adding to Base 1. Base 3/4” thick for carving (based on size of vessel & foot) 2. Score & slip to base (magic water!) 3. Smooth downward & each coil at a time (Pinky Thick after smoothing) ***DO NOT PINCH!!!***

Do this… • Slip & Score to base, every coil after: score & water as glue **Option: (ONLY if good at smoothing /sealing the seam between coils AND clay is very plastic) score + water as glue can be skipped • LEVEL your vessel: when changing direction & when building is done • After every coil: Smooth with rib, check symmetry & direction • Stiffen as needed to preserve form, & Paddle as necessary

Refining The Form • Stiffen until leather hard • Paddle to correct form: from bottom up!!! (when stiffened) • Shave to reduce weight in EVEN layers • Add Foot or Rim • Smooth all surfaces
