▪ Our overarching goal is to support the academic and developmental success of young children from bilingual backgrounds. ▪ We are dedicated to understanding how bilingual What does the EDLD Lab do? children develop their home language(s) and English early in life. ▪ We are primarily focused on children exposed to Spanish and English ages 0 -5. ▪ We also conduct research on how early language assessment tools and interventions account for children’s home language(s) and culture(s). ▪ We also study how to support early childhood service providers to become linguistically and culturally responsive.

▪ Study designed to understand development of Spanish and English for children from Latino backgrounds before 38 months. ▪ Involves 1 -3 home or lab visits with mothers and their young children: MILO Study ▪ Spanish and English vocabulary ▪ Mother-child interactions ▪ Maternal well-being ▪ Compensation, transportation, and childcare provided!
▪ Study designed to examine how children learn words across Spanish and English between ages 46 years. Word Learning Study ▪ Involves 5 visits to the lab over the course of 2 -3 weeks: ▪ Spanish and English vocabulary ▪ Word learning game ▪ Compensation, transportation, and childcare provided!
