Part 11: First Aid Training: Section 177 • Provided by approved training agency • Must meet standards for a certificate in emergency, standard, or advanced first aid Services/Supplies/Equipment: Section 178 • Employers must provide first aid services, supplies and equipment as set (Schedule 2, Tables 3 to 7)
Schedule 2 Determine work risk • Use Schedule 2 found at the back of OHS legislation Code section to determine if the work is low, medium or high risk • If you are not low or high risk work, you are medium
Schedule 2 Low – Table 5 Med – Table 6 High – Table 7
Schedule 2 • First aid equipment & supplies and First aid room requirements are listed in table 5, 6, or 7
Part 11: First Aid Emergency Transportation: Section 180 Employer must: • have a transportation plan in place • ensure an acutely ill or injured worker be accompanied by a designated first aider during transport to a health care facility First Aid Providers: Section 181 • Number of First Aid Providers is determined by Schedule 2 based on low, medium or high risk work
Part 11: First Aid Duty to Report: Section 182 • Report injury or illness to employer as soon as possible Recording of Injury or Illness: Section 183 • Employer must keep a record of worker injury or illness that occurs at the work site First Aid Records Access: Section 184 • First Aid records must be kept confidential • If requested by the worker the employer must provide a copy of the first aid record to the worker
Covenant Health Compliance • Master First Aid Plan template and Supplementary training is submitted for acceptance to Go. A OHS every 5 years
Part 11: First Aid Sections 177 to 184 Covenant Health First Aid Plan identifies: • training • services, supplies, equipment • location of first aid stations • emergency transportation • first aid providers • duty to report injury or illness • recording of injury or illness • first aid records access
Covenant Health Compliance Training • Supplementary First Aid CLi. C Training is completed every 3 years by: o RNs, RPNs as Standard First Aiders o LPNs as Emergency First Aiders • Other disciplines designated as first aiders complete First Aid courses by approved 3 rd party providers
