Coach Status Program Update
Why?
Government of Canada mandate to address harassment, abuse and discrimination in sport Effective April 24, 2018, The Minister may now withhold funding from any organization that does not: • take all necessary measures to create a workplace free from harassment, abuse and discrimination of any kind; • immediately disclose any incident of harassment, abuse or discrimination that could compromise the project or programming; • make provisions—within their governance framework—for access to an independent third party to address harassment and abuse cases; and • provide mandatory training on harassment and abuse to their members by April 1, 2020. (revised to April 1, 2021, with COVID-19)
New EC Safe Sport Policies https: //www. equestrian. ca/about/governance/policies • In 2019 (March/September), the EC Board approved a new suite of policies: • • Abuse Policy (Individuals) Athlete Protection Guidelines Code of Conduct and Ethics Corrective Action During Events Concussion Policy and Concussion Code of Conduct Discipline, Complaints and Appeals Policy Screening Policy Whistleblower policy

What… is your EC Coach STATUS? Registered • • • self-declared uncertified Candidates/mentee s Licensed • • • NCCP certified Other Certifications proof of experience (for now)
New Coach Status Program Framework $49. 95 $199. 95* Registered Coach • self-declared coaches • minimum standards for ethical conduct, screening and safe sport training • proof of valid insurance • status is valid from the date issued until December 31 st of the same year. Coach License • Verified, significant experience • stringent safety and ethical standards • completed formal training or certification • proof of valid insurance • screened to the highest level • status is valid for one year (365 days) from the date it is issued.

TRA Certification • Provincial Vaulting Trainer Certification • Post-secondary education in equine and/or coaching related field • 10+ years coaching experience with enhanced screening
Recognized Safe Sport Training Concussion Training All Coaches must prove completion of concussion training – valid for three years. • EC Concussion Training – e-learning in the ECampus OR • NCCP Making Headway in Sport e-learning module Harassment and Abuse Prevention Training All Coaches must prove completion of harassment and abuse prevention training – valid for three years. • EC Fostering Healthy Equestrian Environments – e-learning in the ECampus OR • Coach Association of Canada’s Safe Sport e-learning module OR • Respect in Sport’s Activity Leaders e-learning module if required by PTSO Completion of training modules must be registered in the ECampus.

Legal Counsel and Support Service • Legal counsel and indemnification, including abuse allegations, $25, 000 per individual occurrence • $50, 000 aggregate per individual per policy term • Protections for EC and PTSO for coaches who meet licensing requirements • Legal Help Line included to assist in a variety of legal matters including but not limited to abuse allegations • Legal insurance for disciplinary hearings and investigations • $0. 00 deductible ØNo coverage for Prior Acts ØCoverage is for legal actions brought in Canada *Generally not available in individual policies
When… do I need a status?
2021 – Licenced Coach status required to deliver EC programs 2022 – Registered Coach status to coach at EC sanctioned competitions 2023 – Licenced Coach for EC Gold; Registered Coach for Bronze competitions 2024 – Licenced Coach for all EC competitions 2025 – All coaches at any EC competition must be Licensed and Certified
