Purpose � To promote a closer relationship between home and school so parents, teachers, staff and the community may collaborate in an effective, purposeful and meaningful way that benefits the welfare of the CMIT South student body. � To work with others (community network) to enhance the quality education for all children and youth and seek to participate in the decision making process. � Help to raise and collect charitable contributions(501© (3))to support educational and extracurricular activities for the student body PTO@CMITSOUTH. Goals for 2017 - 2018 Increase Involvement & Membership � To strengthen and build CMIT South networks and develop student scholars by creating enriching programs, experiences, and friendships for the CMIT South Community ◦ CMIT South Community Networks that include: �CLF, School Board, Parents, Teachers, Businesses, Colleges, and Students ◦ Provide Enriching Family Supportive Programs �Parent University �Lions’ Club �Student Fun Night (Math, Art, Games, etc. ) ◦ Support and Participate in Student Programs �CMIT South Cares (Community Service Focus) �Compassion Games model (http: //compassiongames. org/) �Ready Set Help Representative – Felicia Johnson PTO@CMITSOUTH. Ready, Set, Help “Always Ready to Help” Established as a LLC in VA July 2016 (in process of converting to a non-profit) Initiate community service projects that Combat Homelessness, Empower Youth, and Rebuild Neighborhoods Project Winter Prep: Provided people living on the streets with items needed to endure winter months Boldly Empowered to be Young, Outstanding, Unstoppable (B. E. Y. O. U. ) Workshops: Self-Esteem focused Work with local non-profits to provide services and/or volunteers Girls on the Run (North Virginia) 5 k Race DC Play Day (upcoming) 7
October 7, 2017 The event goals: Expose CMIT students to women who kicked down the STEM door Show the diversity of STEM women and STEM fields Encourage students to pursue a STEM career The day will include: Opening remarks from a special guest speaker from NASA Fun hands-on exercises in each of the STEM disciplines led by women in STEM careers Luncheon with a dynamic woman speaker from Army Dental Corps Swag bag with STEM focused items donated from Department of Agriculture Event coincides with the International Day of the Girl Child (Oct 11), an international observance day declared by the United Nations that supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender 8
We need PTO Help Sign up students!!! Goal is to have 100 student participates Help with the logistics of the event Move students around Escort volunteers and help in the classroom Serve the donated lunch (Dominos Pizza, Salad, Cookies) Lead a STEM exercise Requesting PTO provide additional items for lunch Planning for approx. 150 people (100 students and 50 volunteers) Water Plates and Silverware 9
