GET THE WORD OUT!!!! Your church family should be kept informed and excited about what is happening in your Adventurer Club. This can be down with an Adventurer bulletin board, newsletters, bulletin announcements, at AY meetings, at the Church Board meeting and through personal contact. The Adventurer Ministries is an outreach ministry so it is important that the community knows about and what is happening in your Club. Use TV, radio and newspapers to let your community know the exciting happening in your ministry.
CHILD-PARENT ACTIVITIES Dates should be set aside on the calendar to encourage child-parent activities. One month the child should get to choose the activity the next month the parent. Some ideas that might be suggested: Kids choice – recreational, table games, story telling, playing with toys, exploring, etc. . Parents might suggest – grocery shopping, yard/ house work, fixing a meal, laundry, etc…
REGISTRATION MEETING – Be prepared, explain the Adventurer program FAMILY NETWORK – Have topics that are meaningful to the parents INDUCTION – Make this special – it is when the Adventurer and his/her family are formally dedicated to the Lord within the Adventurer Ministry ADVENTURER SABBATH – This is a time to let your congregation see the Adventurers FIELD TRIPS – These are only limited by your imagination, budget, and time. REMEMEBER to always think of safety. FAMILY BLESSING – This special service gives the parents the opportunity to publicly affirm their child before God and others. CONFERENCE FUN DAY – Make sure this event is on your calendar! Support it. INVESTITURE – This service is when the Adventurers are awarded the Class insignia & Awards that they have earned during the year. Parent Pins are often given at this time too. Keep it short and dignified.
INDUCTION SERVICE – This service is usually held close to the beginning of the Adventurer Year. It is designed to WELCOME IN new Adventurers into your Club. It can be held for Sabbath School, Church, AY/Vespers, or even during a Club Meeting. It is not unusual for both the Pathfinders and Adventurers to hold Induction at the same time. The NAD Manual has an Induction Service using an alter instead of candles for Adventurers.
Sample Induction Service • • • Adventurers march in with flags Pledge to American & Christian flags, and the Bible Sing the Adventurer song Invocation prayer Welcome Message by pastor or director Building the alter - Adventurer Pledge Recognition - Induction of new members Recognition of parental responsibilities Dedication prayer
Family Blessing • This service is to encourage and uplift the families in your Adventurer Club. • It can be done at any time - Induction, Club Meeting, Sabbath Service, Vespers, etc. . • The Family Blessing is a special ceremony which gives parents the opportunity to bless their children by affirming to them their value in the eyes of their parents and in the eyes of God. • It is also a recommitment time for the parents that they will always seek to be a model of God’s unfailing love for their children.
FIELD TRIPS & FUN DAYS
INVESTITURE Investiture is like the “graduation” program for Adventurers. This program can be held with the Pathfinders, and can be done in whatever setting and time works for your Club. Each Club has different opinions on when the Star/Chip/Award patches that the Adventurers have earned are given out. Some give them as the patch is earned during the year, some wait and give all of them at Investiture. The Class Pin that the Adventurer has completed that year is awarded during the Investiture Service. A Master Guide should be the one to invest an Adventurer in his/her class work. Investiture is also a time to show the church family some of the things that the Adventurers have learned and done during the year. Having the Adventurers tell some of their memories or a “slide” presentation is a great way to do this. Adventurer of the Year, Good Conduct and any other Club Awards might also be given out at this time.
The Adventurer Parent Pin A handsome series of small pins are available for the purpose of recognizing parents who have demonstrated commitment through regular participation in the Adventurer club. • These four pins are crafted of brass and enamel fill in each of the four colors of the adventurer classes. Parents of Busy Bees receive a light blue pin, parents of Sunbeams a yellow pin, parents of Builders a blue pin, and parents of Helping Hands receive a red pin. These pins may be awarded at Investiture. Criteria for receiving a pin is at the Director’s discretion, and may include: • Regular attendance at Adventurer Club meetings. • Supporting the Adventurer Club leadership. • Participation in Adventurer Club functions. • Child participation and investiture in the Adventurer Club class curriculum.
