APNIC Is Now Stable • APNIC has reached a level of stability that allows it the luxury of relocation – APNIC would not have been possible without support by JPNIC, WIDE, IIJ, KRNIC, and the rest of the AP Internet community. • Even given the instability in the region’s economies, APNIC is structurally and economically sound and can adjust to the membership’s needs
APNIC’s Structure • I have attempted to make APNIC – Open -- anyone can become an APNIC member – Transparent -- no hidden agendas or secret societies – Independent -- no biases or non-business dependencies • Given APNIC’s international nature, this seemed the most appropriate course of action – Particularly given the diversity of the region • The membership can change this if they desire
My Replacement • The APNIC Executive Council has decided to contact a professional executive search firm to find the new Director General of APNIC – It is expected, the candidates for the new DG position will be submitted to the EC within 8 weeks • Initial interview will be done by the current DG, a short list will be provided to the EC within two weeks following the interviews
Personal Note • I am deeply indebted to Dr. Jun Murai, the members of the old apnic-staff mailing list, and the AP Region Internet community for providing me the opportunity to help build APNIC – I hope my contributions were of value • My only caution is for the APNIC community to be wary of unnecessary politics – APNIC should be a service organization, not a political battleground
