Tropical Wet • Tropical Wet is only found along the equator. • Examples include: Brazil, Indonesia, and the Philippines. • Seasons don’t change due to the amount of direct sunlight. • Direct Sunlight indicates an enormous amount of heat. • Indirect Sunlight indicates a lesser/unnoticeable amount of heat. • Experiences 100 inches of rain per year

Tropical Wet and Dry • Tropical Wet and Dry is found near the equator. • Located on the outer edges of the Tropical Wet climates. • Examples: Africa, Brazil, and India. • Usually has 2 seasons, Wet Season and Dry Season. • 77 Degree average during the wet season, 68 degree average for the dry season. • Dry experiences 4 inches of rain, wet experiences at least 25 inches of rain per year.

Arid • Are mainly located along the 30 degree latitude line, north and south of the equator. • The word Arid means Dry. • Nearly 33% of the Earth’s land is covered in Arid climate. • Temperatures can reach as high as 130 degrees or as low as 30 degrees. • The further from the equator the colder it will be. • Receives less than 10 inches per year of rain

Semiarid • Semiarid is always found on the outer edge of Arid climate areas. • Temperatures can get as low as -15 degrees and the heat varies • Averages between 10 - 20 inches of rain yearly

Mediterranean • Mediterranean climate is found between the 30 degree and 45 degree latitudes. Often found on the western sides of continents, its name comes from the climate found around the Mediterranean Sea. • Has 2 seasons • Summer and Winter • Summer lasts longer than Winter • Almost no rain falls during the summer but in the winter it can rain as much as 20 inches

Humid Subtropical • Humid Subtropical- Found on the east coast of continents between 20 degrees and 40 degrees. • Example: Southeast United States, Southeast South America • Two seasons: Summer and Winter • Winter is usually not cold • Precipitation can reach as much as 48 inches per year.

Marine West Coast • Marine West Coast- Located along the west coast of mid-latitude continents and middle of tropic regions. • Temperatures do not get below 30 degrees or above 72 degrees usually. • Example: Western Europe • Can receive as much as 98 inches and at least 30 inches of rain per year

Humid Continental • Humid Continental- located on the interior of continents between 30 and 60 degree latitude. • Example: Northern Hemisphere • Canada • 4 seasons • Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring • Temperatures change according to season • Rainfall can reach anywhere between 20 - 50 inches per year

Subarctic • Subarctic- Usually found in the interior of continents, not coastal, between 50 and 70 degrees latitude. • 2 seasons ( Winter and Summer) • The winter lasts longer and is very cold • The summer sometimes lasts only 1 month long • Located Northern Canada • Rain falls in the Subarctic can reach 10 to 20 inches per year

Tundra • Tundra- Usually found along the Arctic Ocean. • Frozen mass • Approximately 2 Seasons • Winter is very harsh • Summer lasts only weeks and does not exceed a temperature of 30 degrees • Rainfall reaches 5 -15 inches per year

Ice Caps • Ice Caps- Cover 20 percent of the earth. Located at the poles of the planet; North and South. • Greenland is considered an ice cap. • Precipitation reaches less than 10 inches (snow)

Highland • Highland- Climate is found high in the mountain areas of the world. • Seasonal differences would only be found at the base of the mountains • The Climate changes as you move up the mountain. • Precipitation is hard to calculate due to the difference in the elevation
