CLIMATE RISK AND FLOOD MANAGEMENT PROJECT PROJET DE GESTION DES RISQUES CLIMATIQUES ET D’INONDATION (PGRCI) OBJECTIVES: PROTECT THE LIFE AND GOODS OF THE MALIAN POPULATION AGAINST CLIMATE AND FLOOD RISKS 03 URBAN COMMUNES 04 RURAL COMMUNES The PGRCI is also active in the municipalities of Tomora and Sébékoro in the Kayes circle; Fatoma and Pignari Bana in the circle of Mopti The PGRCI is active in Communes I, IV and VI of the district of Bamako. These communes were selected on the basis of their vulnerability to floods 01 AUTOMATED FLOOD EARLY WARNING SYSTEM (FEW) 188 HYDROCLIMATIC MEASUREMENT DEVICES REPUBLIC OF MALI 50 automatic rain gauges, 02 automatic weather stations, 18 beacons, 8 automatic water level recorders and 9 staff gauges are being installed The newly implemented FEW, powered by data produced by automatic rain gauges, is operational since 2019. It covers an area inhabited by 1. 25 million people 07 OPERATIONA FLOOD WATCH COMMITTEES 04 FILTERING AND PROTECTION DIKES The committees (70 men and 60 women) are operational in the 7 municipalities covered by PGRCI. These committees have followed a series of training sessions received from the technical services and are coming in support of technical services Filtering and protective dikes were built in the 4 rural communities to contain or reduce the speed of rainwater runoff: two in the region of Kayes and two in the region of Mopti 7, 056 M OF SEWERS COLLECTORS BUILT 124. 082 M OF SEWERS COLLECTORS CLEANED 2034 linear meters of collectors and 5122 linear meters of sewers were built in the 7 municipalities covered by PGRCI 1, 836 linear meters of gutters and 32, 246 linear meters of collectors were cleaned in the District of Bamako 04 NURSERIES STARTED 07 PDESC REVISED Area: 1, 249, 000 km 2 The nurseries have been set up in commune IV of the District of Bamako, and the rural communes of Sebekoro, Tomora and Fatoma to local grow plants that are threatened by climate change The Economic, Social and Cultural Development Programs (Plan de Développement Economique, Social et Culturel: PDESC) of the 7 municipalities covered by PGRCI were revised to integrate the flood risk management plan Population: 20, 0000 03 TRANSIT WASTE DISPOSAL FACILITIES SECURED 500, 000 people flooded / year 03 transit solid waste disposal facilities were secured with a fence in Communes I, IV and VI of the District of Bamako 400, 000 people affected / year https: //pgrci-mali. org/ 01 EDUCATION PROGRAM ON CLIMATE AND FLOOD RISKS INITIATED The Education Program on Climate and Flood Risks in Mali (ERCIM) has been set up for students of primary and secondary schools in Mali (+223) 20 28 25 96 contact@pgrci-mali. org
