• Climate change (or global warming), is the process of our planet heating up. The Earth has warmed by an average of 1°C in the last century, and although that might not sound like much, it is a big deal for people and wildlife around the globe. • Unfortunately, rising temperatures don’t mean that we’ll get nicer weather. WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE

 • The changing climate will actually make our weather more extreme and irregular.

• The changing climate will actually make our weather more extreme and irregular. • As temperatures rise, some areas will get wetter and lots of animals and plants could find they’re not able to adjust to the changing climate. WHAT WILL CLIMATE CHANGE DO

 • Climate change is happening because of what humans are doing. By burning

• Climate change is happening because of what humans are doing. By burning fossil fuels such as oil and gas which are then released into the atmosphere, trapping the heat from the sun and warming the Earth. • This is known as the Greenhouse effect. Deforestation, the cutting down of trees to make way for roads which add to pollution via transportation, oil mines and dams. WHY IS CLIMATE CHANGE OCCURING

 • A warmer climate will affect our planet in a number of ways:

• A warmer climate will affect our planet in a number of ways: • • • More rainfall Changing seasons Shrink sea ice Rising sea levels Many species (animals and plants) will be unable to change to the hotter climate HOW WILL CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECT THE WORLD

 • Adapting to greater climate variability will be a challenge for Australia’s cotton

• Adapting to greater climate variability will be a challenge for Australia’s cotton growers into the future, but the reality is the cotton industry is a very small emitter of greenhouse gasses. • Agriculture’s share of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions is 16%. • Cotton growing produces less than 0. 3% of Australian agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions. HOW WILL CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECT COTTON

 • Evidence of climate change includes the rapid melting of glaciers. The melting

• Evidence of climate change includes the rapid melting of glaciers. The melting of glaciers in Greenland, Antarctica, and Tropical Mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in greenhouse gas levels. Also in the last century the global sea levels have rose by 20. 30 cm. • However, the rate of the sea level in the last two decades is nearly the double that of the last century. The number of high temperature events in some countries like the United States, have been increasing, while the number of record low temperature events have been decreasing. • The government is advertising renewable energy and different ways on how to prevent climate change. • Supporting the use of clean and efficient energy. • Banning activities that add to climate change WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT DOING TO HELP
