Different types of actions: • GCCA: Global Climate Change Alliance, +/- 85 Mln €

Different types of actions: • GCCA: Global Climate Change Alliance, +/- 85 Mln € ongoing and planned in Asia and Pacific • REDD+: 5. 9 Mln € for 3 pilot projects in ASEAN region (ENRTP funding), Pilot action in preparation in Malaysia (4 Mln € from MIP) • FLEGT: Regional Support Programme (€ 6 Mln), started in November 2008, promotes good forest governance and sustainable management of natural resources in Asia ; Voluntary Partnership (VPA) signed with Indonesia, Malaysia scheduled for 2012, discussions with Vietnam • SWITCH: started in 2007 (€ 150 Mln), aims to promote sustainable consumption and production (SCP) among consumers, small and medium enterprises and to support Asian policy-makers shifting towards SCP practices.

Example: Bangladesh • Context: One of the most climate vulnerable countries in the world. • • More frequent floods, tropical cyclones, storm surges and droughts These changes threaten the significant achievements Bangladesh in 20 years increasing incomes, reducing poverty and in achieving self sufficiency in production of the country's staple food crop rice. • • Effects of climate change will make it more difficult to achieve MDGs. Overall objective: to protect and improve the lives of 10 million climate vulnerable people in Bangladesh by 2015 through climate change adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk reduction measures. Purpose: to support the Government of Bangladesh with the implementation of the Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan Implementation: 28, 5 Mln € contribution to multi donor trustfund (Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund – BCCRF), administered by World Bank, total financing 125 Mln $

Malaysia (2012) • Tackling climate change through sustainable forest management and community development • Overall Objective : • Contribute to the sustainable and low carbon development of the State of Sabah. • Specific Objectives: • 1. To enhance institutional capacity of the Sabah Government and develop necessary systems and tools to implement the State REDD+ Strategy. • 2. To improve Sabah's REDD+ readiness and implementation through pilot projects to strengthen community engagement in forest protection and propoor sustainable forest management.

FLEGT ASIA • • Regional Support Programme for EU FLEGT Action Plan in Asia Context: Illegal logging continues to be a major problem for Asian countries. It is responsible for political, socio-economic and environmental problems, including vast environmental damage in developing countries, and impoverishment of rural communities. Description: FLEGT Asia contributes to poverty eradication and sustainable forest management, through support to the implementation of the EU FLEGT Action Plan. Focused on countries from South-East Asian region, China and India. Complement actions at the bilateral level through Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) between the EU and timber producing countries. Implemented jointly with European Forest Institute, Expected results: Improved information base on forest governance and timber trade; Increased understanding and awareness among Asian stakeholders; Enhanced capacity of key players to meet the identified market demands, to enter FLEGT/VPA and to strengthen regional cooperation on forest governance; FLEGT policy dialogues in the Asian region supported with technical input

SWITCH ASIA: • 3 Components: • Grants: for projects with potential for replication and which can produce quantifiable reductions both of CO 2 emissions and of resource, water and energy consumption. SWITCH-Asia has funded 47 projects in 15 Asian countries in areas such as greening supply chains, marketing for ecoproducts, green public procurement, cleaner production, ecolabelling and products for the poor. • Network Facility: to increase the exchange of project experience in order to increase the quality and impact of project activities. • Policy Support: to strengthen the formulation and implementation of SCP policies in Asia.
